#15 UMW Women's Tennis Tops Franciscan, 5-0, in NCAA Tourney 1st Round

The 15th ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team defeated Franciscan University, 5-0, on Friday at the Battleground in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Eagles improve to 21-4 on the season.

The Eagles started strong in doubles play, as Rachel Summers and Lauren Quinn topped Madelyn Conrad and Maria Binette, 8-1, at one, and Danielle Mirabella and Claire Coleman were victorious at two, 8-0. UMW completed the sweep with an 8-2 win at three doubles from Olivia Moore and Sophie Dixon.

In singles, the Eagles gained the first set at all six flights, and gained wins from Coleman at two, 6-1, 6-0, and got the clincher from Cooper at six, 6-0, 6-0.

UMW will face Johns Hopkins University on Saturday at 2 p.m. in second round action at the Battleground.
