#19 UMW Women's Tennis Tops #11 Skidmore, 5-4, to Open Blue/Gray Invitational

The 19th ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team jumped out to an early lead, saw it slip away, and then triumph in the end in a 5-4 victory over 11th ranked Skidmore College on Friday afternoon at the UMW Indoor Tennis Center. The Eagles remain unbeaten at 6-0 on the season.

In doubles, the Eagles battled to a 3-0 sweep. At three, Sophie Dixon and Olivia Moore gained the first point with an 8-5 win. Lauren Quinn and Rachel Summers then followed suit at one, claiming an 8-6 victory. Claire Coleman and Danielle Mirabella trailed 6-5 at two, and roared back for the three final points, including a pair of breaks.

In singles, the Eagles upped the advantage to 4-0, as Rachel Cooper gained a 6-1, 6-1 victory at six singles. Then, Skidmore stormed back to take the next four points, claiming victory at one, three, four, and five.

With the match tied, Coleman won the first set but dropped the second, setting up a third set for the team match. Coleman responded with a 7-5 win in the third to give the Eagles the win to remain unbeaten.

UMW will host Southwestern (Tx.) University on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
