The 16th ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to 18th ranked MIT on Friday night at the UMW Indoor Tennis Center. The Eagles slip to 7-1 on the season.
The Eagles gained an early advantage by taking two of three doubles matches. Ashley Barrow and Kait Brogan were victorious, 8-6, at one over Elysa Kohrs and Libby Rickeman, and Caroline Mosberg and Rachel Summers won 8-6 at two over Kelly Zhu and Lara Rakocevic.
In singles, the Eagles dropped the first set in four matches, with Danielle Mirabella taking a 6-4, 6-2 win at four. MIT took the next three to grab a 4-3 advantage with two matches going to a third set. Brogan fell, 6-4, 6-7, 3-6, at one, and Rachel Cooper fell in the third, 1-6, 7-6, 6-4, as MIT gained the win.
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday against Case Western Reserve at 3 pm.
