FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Mary Washington sophomore Rachel Summers earned CAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors for Sept. 26, 2017.

Mary Washington sophomore Rachel Summers earned CAC Player of the Week accolades after capturing the ITA Southeast Regional singles title on Monday, becoming the first UMW player since 2000 to win the tournament. Summers, the nine seed, defeated Anjali Kashyap of Carnegie Mellon, 7-6 (5), 6-4, in the final. Earlier in the day, she topped Hannah Rosenfield of Carnegie Mellon, 7-5, 6-3. In all, she won six matches over the weekend, including three over seeded players, and won all six matches in straight sets. Summers will advance to the ITA Small College National Championships in October. She becomes the first Eagles to claim the singles flight since Lea Schon in 2000.​

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Frostburg State sophomore Jenna Lipinski opened the fall campaign at 4-2 with a 2-1 record at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles ... Salisbury freshman Ariana Leggio made the deepest singles run of any Sea Gull at the ITA Southeast Regional at Mary Washington. Leggio played in the final of the Blue 4 singles draw. She won the opening two rounds in straight sets, winning 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-2 before coming from behind for a 3-6, 6-1, 12-10 win in the semifinals. In the championship match, she dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision. In the Blue 2 doubles draw, with partner Shannon Hickman, Leggio narrowly dropped her opening round match, 9-7, but went on for two wins in the consolation bracket ... Southern Virginia freshman Alex Arbuckle was the only Knight not to drop a game in the season opener against Emory & Henry. She won 8-0 at #1 doubles and 6-0, 6-0 at #2 singles ... York junior Rachel Wagner went 8-0 last week - 4-0 at second singles and 4-0 at second doubles.
