Three-time all-conference swimming standout Claudia Keller has been named as a co-winner of the 2020-21 University of Mary Washington Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Due to COVID-19 this year, award winners were selected among the senior class based on their career statistics and academic achievements.
A three-time All-Capital Athletic Conference selection, Keller graduated in May with a Biology degree, and maintained a 3.609 cumulative grade-point average. Her academic accomplishments include gaining recognition on the UMW Athletics honor roll each semester of her career, and is a three-time conference academic team member. She gained Dean's list accolades five semesters, and gained President's list honors in Fall 202. is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society, and also worked on a research project about human interaction with plant species on campus. Athletically, Keller was undefeated in the 1650 freestyle at the CAC Championships, and earned an NCAA B-Cut every year of her career in the 1650 freestyle (2018, 2019, 2020). She also won a conference championship in the 500 free (2018) during her career, and was 2nd team all-conference in the 500 free twice (2019 & 2020) and the 200 backstroke once (2020).
"Claudia is one of the hardest working student-athletes I have worked with", said UMW head coach Justin Anderson. "She trains and competes in some of the most grueling events in the college line up, and she has been a major contributor to our team throughout her career."
The UMW Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards are the longest tenured awards chosen by the athletic department, dating back to 1990.
