UMW Women’s Soccer Falls at CNU, 3-1, in CAC Championship

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team fell to CNU, 3-1, in the CAC championship in Newport News, VA. The Eagles finish their season at 12-4-1. 

UMW kept pace with CNU in the early going as the two teams went back-and-forth. Abby Zimmerman had a look at goal in the 29th minute on a header but was saved by the Captains. CNU took the lead 1-0 with just one minute left in the first half.

The Captains took a 2-0 lead in the 56th minute as they counter-attacked off of a Zimmerman shot. Brooke Bauman had a shot blocked away in the 60th minute. Zimmerman put one in the back of the net in the 66th minute on an assist by Corinne Carson to cut the lead to 2-1. Just six minutes later, the Captains sealed the game as they scored to make it 3-1. The Eagles fired off some shots over the last few minutes but could not put one past the goalie.

UMW totaled 12 shots, seven on goal, and seven corner kicks. Kelcie Macomber made 10 saves in goal for the Eagles.
