Junior Grace Freidl scored two goals and assisted on another, and freshman Erica Ganthner added a score and three assists to lift the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 6-5 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan College on Wednesday at a rainy Battleground. The Eagles improve to 3-0 with the win.

The visiting Bishops jumped ahead in the first half, building a 3-0 lead in the first 31 minutes. UMW answered, with freshman Jordan Rock scoring on a Freidl pass at 35:59. The Eagles pulled to within one at halftime, as Rock scored with two seconds left on a Ganthner assist.

In the second, Freidl scored on a Ganthner assist at 48:35 to tie the score, but the Bishops came right back with a score at 49:24 to regain a 4-3 advantage. Ganthner scored from outside to tie the score just 34 seconds later, but NC Wesleyan answered again at 61:25, taking a 5-4 lead.

UMW found the tying score from the foot of freshman Brooke Bauman at 75:39, on a Ganthner assist, and the winner from Freidl on a Bauman assist at 86:17.

The Eagles held an 18-15 advantage in shots, and the Bishops led, 4-3, in corner kicks. UMW goalkeeper Haley randall made six saves for the Eagles, while Ashley Major had seven for NCWC.

Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday when they host Washington (Md.) College at 12:30 pm in the UMW Classic.
