Four Different Players Score to Lead UMW Women's Soccer Past York, 5-2, on Saturday

Four different players scored goals to lead the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 5-2 victory over York College of Pa. in a rematch of last year's Capital Athletic Conference Championship at a rainy Battleground on Saturday. The Eagles improve to 7-4-1 overall, and 3-1 in CAC play.

The Eaglkes struck early, scoring a pair of goals in the opening minutes to gain a 2-0 lead after nine minutes of play. Sophomore Lauren Brower opened the scoring at 7:53 on an assist from sophomore Shannon Blackstone. 1:07 later, sophomore Allye Reynolds upped the lead to 2-0, on another Blackstone pass.

Sophomore Kara Bruzdzinski scored at 39:05 on an assist from soph Christiana Meyers, giving the Eagles a 3-0 cushion. York scored just before intermission to cut the deficit to 3-1 after 45 minutes of play.

In the second half, the Eagles regained a three-goal advantage at 58:35, as senior Maryfay Jackson scored on a Reynolds assist. York answered with a tally at 76:46 from Ryan Hussey. Jackson capped the scoring with 2:09 to play, on an assist from sophomore Marisa Madaras.

The Eagles led in shots, 14-10, as well as in corner kicks, 7-3. Sophomore goalie Haley Randall had four saves in goal for Mary Washington, while Brittany Cullison had one save and Emily Faust two for the Spartans.

UMW will be back in action on Wednesday when they visit Southern Virginia University at 6:00 p.m.
