#19 UMW Women's Lax Falls at #21 Christopher Newport, 12-8, on Saturday

The 19th-ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped a 12-8 decision at 21st-ranked Christopher Newport University on Saturday in Coast 2 Coast Athletic Conference action. The Eagles slip to 4-4 on the season, and 2-2 in C2C play.

UMW roared out to the lead in the early going, reeling off five straight goals to take a 5-0 lead after 19 minutes. Katie Blair and Rebecca Pullen each scored two goals in the run, with senior Kennedy King adding another on a free position shot. CNU scored in the final minutes of the half, and the Eagles held a 5-1 lead at halftime.

In the second half, CNU gained all the momentum, and outscored the Eagles, 11-3. The teams traded scores in the early going in the second, with Blair and Maris Schneider posting goals for the Eagles. The Captains scored three straight to draw to within 7-6, but Kate Sovero scored on a Samantha Stachowiak assist to return the Eagles lead to two, at 8-6, with 12:26 left. The Captains the reeled off six goals in the final 10:31 for the victory.

CNU led in shots, 29-23, as well as in ground balls, 14-13. UMW goalie Reilly Miller made nine saves
