Hanna Ashby Named UMW/Orthopedic Specialty Clinic Comeback Athlete of the Year

University of Mary Washington senior women's lacrosse goalie Hanna Ashby has been named as the 2018-19 UMW/Orthopedic Specialty Clinic Comeback Athlete of the Year, as selected by the UMW athletic training staff.

Ashby, who as a sophomore in 2017 became the first goalie in program history to gain All-America honors, saw limited action in 2018, as she broke her collarbone minutes before the season opener.

This spring, Ashby returned to action with full force, helping the Eagles to a 16-5 overall record, the team's fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance, and the highest in-season national ranking in program history. Ashby ranked in the top 10 nationally in goals-against average (7.60 per game) and was 12th nationally in save percentage (.536).

She was named as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week three times, and has gained first team all-region and all-conference honors this spring.
