FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - York senior Nicole Clauter, St. Mary's Lucy Gussio and York's Jen Muston received major awards to highlight the 2019 All-CAC Women's Lacrosse Team. York led the way with seven players on the all-conference squad, while Salisbury and Mary Washington earned six individuals each with Christopher Newport collecting five honors.
Clauter, a senior defender for York, was named CAC Player of the Year for the second time in three years after she led the Spartans to the CAC regular-season title. This marks the third time a Spartans standout has earned Player of the Year honors, joining Karlie Dougherty in 2015. A three-time All-CAC first team selection and four-time All-CAC honoree, Clauter ranks second in the conference in draw controls (96) and fourth in ground balls (49), and has helped the York defense limit its opponents to just 8.01 overall goals against per game (3rd) and 6.62 GAA in CAC play (2nd) this season.
Gussio, a first-year attacker for St. Mary's, was selected as the CAC Rookie of the Year. She is the 10th Seahawk to collect top rookie honors and first time since Shelby Newman in 2013. Gussio has tallied 40 goals and 11 assists this spring to go along with 74 shots on goal which ranks seventh in the CAC.
Muston collected the CAC Coach of the Year award for the fourth time, the second most among any coach in conference history (Salisbury's Jim Nestor - 13). Muston helped lead the Spartans to the CAC regular season title. She was also named CAC Coach of the Year in 2017, 2012 and 2011.
York recorded five first-team selections and two second team honorees, while Mary Washington earned five first-team honorees and one second team standout. Christopher Newport collected a pair of first teamers to go with a trio of second team individuals.
