On Saturday, the fourth ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team defeated Meredith College by a score of 16-12. The Eagles were led by junior Paige Haskins, who finished with six goals.

Senior Julia Albert put Mary Washington on the board early with a goal that was assisted by senior McKenzie Maguire in the first minute of the game. A minute later, Albert added another goal, this time assisted by senior Alison Davis, to extend the lead to 2-0.

Haskins got in on the scoring action on the following possession, assisted by Maguire. After several solid defensive possessions by both teams, Meredith scored their first goal of the game, followed by another goal minutes later, cutting the Eagles' lead to 3-2.

Shortly after, Haskins answered with her second goal of the game, again assisted by Maguire. Less than a minute later, Albert built on the lead with an unassisted goal. With 18:06 left in the first half, Haskins recorded her third goal of the game, this time assisted by Albert. The next possession resulted in another Mary Washington goal by the hands of Albert, setting the score at 7-2.

There was then a seven-minute scoring drought by both teams before Meredith broke the silence with a goal. Davis then responded with an unassisted goal, with the score now at 8-3 with 7:03 remaining in the half. A few minutes later, Maguire got on the board, scoring on an unassisted goal. The Eagles then got on a hot streak that saw them score three goals in one minute by the hands of Davis, Haskins, and senior Hope Lockwood. Before the end of half, Meredith added another goal to their total, setting the halftime score at 12-4.

Haskins started the second half on a high note, scoring another goal in the first minute of the half, assisted by Davis. Albert and Maguire then hooked up on another connection, Albert with the goal and Maguire with the assist. Five minutes into the half, Meredith added their first goal of the half, with the score now at 14-5.

After holding Mary Washington scoreless for nearly nine minutes, Meredith added another goal. Both teams would then go another five minutes without scoring before Meredith scored again, narrowing the lead to 14-7.

Shortly after, Haskins responded with a goal, reenergizing the Eagles' offense. After another seven-minute scoring drought by both sides, senior Savannah Boyd split defenders to score her first goal of the game, assisted by Maguire. Meredith finished the game atop a five-goal run to put the score at 16-12, but in the end, Mary Washington prevailed as the final buzzer sounded.

In addition to Haskins' six scores, Amguire added a score and seven assists, while Albert scored five with one assist. Hanna Ashby made eight saves for the Eagles in 52 minutes, and Reilly Miller made two stops in eight. The Eagles led in shots, 35-26, and draw controls, 17-13.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, March 30, at Salisbury.
