UMW's Maguire, Ashby Named CAC Women's Lax Players of the Week

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Mary Washington's Mackenzie Maguire & Hanna Ashby were honored as the CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for Feb. 25, 2019.   

Offensive Player of the Week

Mackenzie Maguire has led #6/#8 Mary Washington to an undefeated start, scoring eight goals and adding nine assists in the Eagles' first three contests, all of which were wins. She scored twice and added an assist in a 10-8 win over #10 Washington & Lee. This week, she scored three goals and added six assists in a 14-3 win over Shenandoah, and then had three goals and two assists in a 17-7 win over Lynchburg. She has surpassed the 200 career point plateau already this season.

Mary Washington senior goalkeeper Hanna Ashby has started the season with a flourish for UMW, allowing 11 goals in 129 minutes for a 5.10 GAA. She has also registered 24 saves, good for a 68.6 save percentage. She had 10 saves in a 10-8 win over #10 W&L, added nine saves against just one goal against Shenandoah, and had five stops against two goals against Lynchburg.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

York's Meghan Fox had a big week in leading the sixth ranked Spartans to a 2-0 week to start the season. Fox tallied nine points on eight goals and one assist in the two wins. Fox began the week with three goals on six shots in the Spartans' 16-9 win over Washington College. She added a ground ball in the win. Fox followed that with six points on five goals and an assist in the 14-4 road win at Montclair State. Fox scored her five goals on eight shots. She also had three ground balls while she was 2-for-3 on free position shots. Fox also became just the fifth Spartan in program history to reach 100 career goals with her first goal of the day. She now has 126 points on 104 goals and 22 assists...York's Nicole Clauter led the #6 Spartans to a pair of wins to open York's 2019 campaign. Clauter began the week with seven draw controls, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers in the Spartan win over Washington College. Clauter followed that with five draw controls, two ground balls and three caused turnovers in the 14-4 road win at Montclair State. Clauter leads the league in draw controls while she is second in caused turnovers. She is fifth in the CAC in ground balls...Salisbury's Kendall Bannan has caused four turnovers and scooped up five ground balls in Salisbury's first two games of the season, helping the team to a 2-0 start. The junior caused a pair of turnovers while also coming up with two ground balls in a 14-6 win against Stevenson University. She then helped the Sea Gulls come from behind to pick up a 13-12 overtime win against Catholic University by causing two more turnovers and scooping up three ground balls while helping limit the Cardinals to just three goals in the second half...Salisbury's Emma Skoglund has notched seven goals in the first two games of the season, helping Salisbury jump out to a 2-0 start. She registered a hat trick in the season-opening win against Stevenson University and tallied four goals in the 13-12 overtime victory against Catholic University. The sophomore added three draw controls and one ground ball against the Cardinals. Skoglund sparked a 4-0 run as Salisbury was down three against Catholic in the second half and later recorded the game-tying goal with just 45 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime...Frostburg State's Morgan Cavey scored once, caused four turnovers and scooped up three ground balls in Frostburg?s season opening loss to Randolph-Macon...Christopher Newport's Sarah Culver leads the CAC with 12 goals, including six in her most recent outing at Haverford on February 23. Four of those goals came on free-position attempts, which equaled the single-game program record. She also opened the year with a six-point showcase against Meredith on February 16. Along with her offensive efforts, Culver also leads the Captains with 10 draw controls this season, including six during her work against the Fords on Saturday...St. Mary's Ali Collie led the team with eight points off of five goals and three assists in a 18-11 victory over McDaniel on Feb. 23. She eclipsed the 100 career point mark during the game and currently sits at 103 career points...Southern Virginia's Jordan Gunderson tallied nine points for the Knights despite splitting the week 1-1. In the win over DeSales, she recorded three assists and three goals as well as six ground balls.
