Hudson, Maguire Lead #6 UMW Women’s Lacrosse Past St. Mary’s, 18-11, on Wednesday

Senior Holly Hudson scored six goals and junior Mackenzie Maguire tallied two goals and dished out two assists to lead the sixth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team past St. Mary's on a rainy Wednesday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va. UMW improves to 9-1 overall, and 2-0 in the CAC. 

Only 1:26 into the game, Allison Davis got the scoring started as she scored on a free position shot. St. Mary's scored just three minutes later to tie the game up at 1. Hudson scored her first of the day with 24:41 to play to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead. From there, the Seahawks scored three straight goals to take the lead 4-2.

Mackenzie Maguire scored her first goal of the day with 16:57 to play to put UMW down one, 4-3. St. Mary's then scored a goal on a free position shot with 14:27 left. The Eagles responded to being down, and scored seven straight goals to end the first half and take the lead 10-5. 

Paige Haskins got that scoring started as she scored on an assist from Maguire, then Hope Lockwood added a goal on a free position shot. Savannah Boyd tallied a goal on an assist from Maguire and then Hudson added her second goal of the day with 8:59 to play. Davis scored on a man-down situation, Maguire scored on a free position shot, and then Davis added another goal on an assist from Maguire with just 22 seconds to play in the first half.

In the second half, UMW scored the first two goals to extend their lead. Haskins added a goal on an assist from Boyd and Hudson scored on a free position shot with 25:51 left in the second half to extend their lead to 12-5. The Seahawks scored a goal on a free position shot with 24:43 left to get within six, 12-6. 

Haskins scored her third goal of the day on an assist from Julia Albert and then Hudson scored another goal to put UMW up eight, 14-6. St. Mary's responded as they scored three straight goals to cut it to five, 14-9.

Hudson scored her fifth goal with 13:51 to play and St. Mary's came right back and scored with 12:03 left to put the score at 15-10. Hudson tallied her sixth and final goal of the game on an assist from Maguire and then Boyd scored on a free position shot to push the Eagles lead to 17-10 with just over five minutes to play.

St. Mary's scored with 4:39 to play and then Lockwood capped the scoring for the day as she scored on a free position shot. UMW won the game 18-11.

Kirsten Littlefield recorded 10 draw controls and picked up three ground balls. Shannon Bremer made seven saves on the day for the Eagles. UMW was 16-19 on clear attempts and won 20-31 draw controls.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday as they will travel to Wesley for a game time set at 1 p.m.
