#6 UMW Women’s Lacrosse Falls to #1 Gettysburg College, 12-4, on Thursday

The sixth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse was defeated 12-4 on Thursday afternoon to first-ranked Gettysburg College in Fredericksburg, Va. The Eagles slip to 7-1 on the season.

The Bullets got off to a hot start as they scored the first four goals of the game, with the last one coming with 19:58 remaining in the half. Mackenzie Maguire got UMW on the board as she scored on a free position shot with 18:14 left. 

Allison Davis then brought the Eagles within two goals, 4-2, as she scored with 11:06 to go. Gettysburg got the last goal of the half with 4:25 remaining and took a 5-2 lead into halftime.

UMW got on the scoreboard first in the second half as Holly Hudson scored on a free position shot with 22:27 left. Gettysburg went on to score the next five goals and extend their lead to 10-3 with 9:38 remaining in the game.

Davis added her second goal of the game with just 3:30 left, to bring the score to 10-4. The Bullets added two more goals and won the game 12-4.

Maguire led UMW with three caused turnovers on the day. Kirsten Littlefield picked up three grounds balls and three draw controls. Julia Albert led the team with four ground balls. Shannon Bremer made seven saves for the Eagles and Bailey Pilder made 11 saves for the Bullets.

UMW won the ground ball battle, 18-17, and converted 15-18 clears.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, March 24, as they host #12 Messiah at 1 p.m.
