#11 UMW Women’s Lacrosse Tops Roanoke College, 16-7, on Friday Afternoon

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team defeated Roanoke College, 16-7, on Friday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va. The Eagles improve to 6-0 on the season. Jennifer Bosserman led the Eagles with five ground balls and also recorded a caused turnover. Kirsten Littlefield grabbed nine draw controls. 

Paige Haskins got the scoring started for UMW as she scored on an assist from Holly Hudson just 3:06 into the first half. Hudson added a goal herself and then dished out an assist to Katherine Lambert to put the Eagles up 3-0 with 21:32 left.

Kristen Kunaniec scored just 20 seconds after Lambert to put UMW up 4-0. Roanoke got on the board with 19:30 to play. Hudson scored her second goal of the game with 18:36 remaining.

The Eagles then reeled off four straight goals from Julia Albert, Rachel Marshner, Hope Lockwood, and Mackenzie Maguire to extend the lead to 9-1. The Maroons answered with a goal on a free position shot with 11:27 to play in the first half.

Kennedy King got in the scoring column on a free position goal with 9:50 left. Madison Hurlburt and Lauren Fox supplied two more goals for the Eagles and pushed their lead to 12-2. Roanoke scored two goals in the last 5:19 of the first half to cut the lead to 12-4.

Hudson added another goal just 28 seconds into the second half. Albert added her second of the game with 25:58 to play to put the lead at 14-4. Allison Davis and Chloe wade both scored over the next eight minutes to put the Eagles up 16-4 with 17:38 to play. The Maroons scored three goals, with their last coming with 6:22 to play. The Eagles defense played well the whole game and closed out the victory, 16-7.

UMW led in the shot department 25-13, as well as ground balls 19-14. The Eagles won 15 out of the 24 draw controls and 16-20 on clears. Shannon Bremer made two saves.

UMW will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Buena Vista, Va. to take on Southern Virginia University at 12 p.m.
