UMW Women's Basketball Tops Mary Baldwin in Townebank Classic

The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team roared ahead early and accelerated late in an 84-43 victory over Mary Baldwin University on Saturday in the Townebank Classic at Virginia Wesleyan University. The Eagles improve to 4-0 on the season.

After pulling away, 21-8, in the first quarter, the teams played closer in the second, before UMW outscored the Squirrels, 47-20, in the second half. UMW was red hot from the floor, shooting 54.8% from the field on the day (34-62), making 6-10 three point attempts and 10-19 free throws. Mary Baldwin shot 39.4% (13-33), making2-8 three point attempts and 15-26 free throws. The Eagles led in rebounding, 30-25, and forced 42 Squirrel turnovers.

Junior forward Jordan Carpenter led the Eagles with 18 points and seven rebounds, while senior guard Molly Sharman scored 12 and junior guard Keagan Schwab added 10. Junior guard Lexi Miller led UMW with five assists.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. when they face Salem College in Virginia Beach.
