Senior Jordan Pamlanye scored a team-high 23 points to lead the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to an 83-75 victory at North Carolina Wesleyan College on Tuesday night in Rocky Mount, N.C. The Eagles move to 3-2 on the season.

The Eagles built an eight-point lead in the first quarter, thanks in large part to seven points from sophomore Maddie Shifflett, including the first five of the contest as the Eagles built an 11-2 lead. In the second quarter, the Bishops went on a big run to take a 31-29 lead with 3:46 remaining before halftime. The Eagles scored eight straight points to lead, 37-31, with 2:05 left, and, after another run, a late basket from Tory Martin gave UMW a three point lead at 39-36 at halftime.

In the third quarter, a three point basket from Emily Shively capped a run that built the Eagle advantage to 49-40 with 6:50 remaining. But NC Wesleyan scored nine straight to tie the score with 3:27 to go. The Bishops gained the lead at 52-51 with 1:04 on the clock, but seven straight Eagle points gave UMW a 58-54 advantage entering the fourth quarter.

NC Wesleyan trimmed the margin to 61-60 with 7:06 to play, and tied the score at 63-63 with 5:54 remaining. A Pamlanye field goal gave the Eagles a nine-point advantage at 75-66 with 1:30 to go, but the Bishops quickly cut into the deficit with a pair of steals and baskets, and the score was 75-72 with 1:05 left. The Eagles connected on eight straight free throws at the end to put the game away.

Pamlanye made 9-14 field goals and added five rebounds to lead the way, and Shifflett added 16 points and nine rebounds. Senior Meghan Comer added 15 points off the bench, while Emily Thompson and Tory Martin each had 10. NC Wesleyan was led by Vontasia Olds' 14 points.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Meredith College at 2 p.m.
