The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team captured a back and forth battle with Salisbury University, 52-49, on Saturday at Ron Rosner Arena in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles improve to 4-4 overall, and 3-1 in CAC play.

In the opening quarter, UMW jumped ahead on a three pointer from Kendall Parker, but Salisbury built a 10-5 lead with 2:43 left in the frame. A three point basket from Madison Shifflett cut the deficit to 10-8, and another triple from Parker gave the Eagles an 11-10 lead with 1:07 remaining. The teams traded baskets to close the quarter, with Shifflett's jumper with one second left gave UMW a 13-12 advantage.

Salisbury opened the second on a 6-0 run to grab an 18-13 lead with 7:26 left, and held that five point lead until the halftime buzzer, taking a 27-22 lead to intermission.

The Eagles chipped away in the third quarter, using a three from Parker and a pair of baskets from Jordan Pamlanye to tie the score with 7:11 in the quarter. Salisbury again forged ahead with a 5-0 run to take a 36-31 lead, but UMW got a free throw and another three from Parker to close the gap to one, at 36-35, after 30 minutes of action.

In the fourth, UMW quickly gained the lead on a McKenzie Jenkins three pointer, and, after a Salisbury basket tied the score, another three from Meghan Comer. A pair of Salisbury baskets allowed them to retake the lead at 42-41 with 6:16 left, but Parker scored the next five points to give UMW a 46-42 lead with 4:05 left. Comer added another bucket to expand the lead to six, and the Eagles led, 50-44, with 2:28 left.

The Sea Gulls responded with a pair of baskets and a free throw to trim the lead to one at 50-49 with 37 second remaining, but Parker connected on a pair of free throws to account for the final score of 52-49.

Parker led all scorers with 22 points on 7-12 shooting, including 5-9 three pointers. Pamlanye led UMW with seven rebounds. The Eagles shot 39.2% from the field (20-51), making 9-16 three point tries and 3-8 free throws. Salisbury shot 23-63 from the field (36.5%), with 0-11 shooting on three pointers and 3-5 free throws. Salisbury led in rebounds, 39-35. UMW's 11-23 shooting in the second half sparked the comeback win.

The Eagles will be back in action on December 16 when they visit Emory & Henry College at 2:00 pm.
