#13 UMW Women's Basketball Falls to Greensboro, 55-41

The 13th ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team dropped a 55-41 decision to Greensboro College at the Methodist University Turkey Shootout on Saturday in Fayetteville, N.C. The Eagles, who drop their first regular season game in two years, falls to 3-1 on the season.

The Pride jumped out to an early lead, holding a 20-12 advantage midway through the first half, but the Eagles answered with a run to cut the deficit to just three at halftime at 27-24.

In the second half, the Eagles made a run, and led, 30-29, with 14:26 left on a layup by freshman Caitie Geoghegan. From there, the Pride went on an 11-3 run, and would hold the lead for the remainder of the game.

The Eagles shot 34% from the floor, while the Pride shot 39%. Greensboro made six three pointers, with the Eagles making one. UMW went 4-11 from the free throw line, while GC went 7-9.

Junior Aby Diop had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Eales, while sophomore Caitlin Ciniero added 10 points for UMW. Senior center Carol Dye had seven points and nine rebounds for UMW.

The Eagles will face North Carolina Wesleyan College on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
