Wimmer, McRae Lead UMW Women's Basketball Past Roanoke, 75-41


Senior Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va., James Madison) scored 17 points and senior Jenna McRae (Springfield, Va., Annandale) added 14 to lead the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 75-41 win over Roanoke College in the Randolph-Macon College Tipoff tournament on Friday in Ashland. The Eagles improve to 2-0 on the year.

The Eagles raced out to a 40-14 lead at halftime, and never looked back. UMW shot 29-60 from the floor (48%), while limiting Roanoke to 11 field goals and 22% shooting. The Eagles won the rebounding battle, 41-31.

Wimmer shot 6-11 from the floor, while McRae went 5-9. Sophomore Aby Diop (Springfield, Va., Annandale) had nine points and rebounds for the Eagles. Roanoke was led by Paxton Gwin's 14 points.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Randolph-Macon at 4:00 p.m.
