McRae's 19 Leads UMW Women Past Frostburg; Eagles Improve to 18-0


Senior guard Jenna McRae (Springfield, Va., Annandale) scored 19 points to lead the ninth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 64-44 victory at Frostburg State University on Saturday in Frostburg. The Eagles improve to 18-0 overall and 9-0 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

The Eagles trailed early in the contest, and the Bobcats built a 24-18 lead with 2:54 left in the first half. The Eagles closed with a flourish, scoring the final nine points of the half in taking a 27-24 lead to halftime. McRae hit a three pointer to push the Eagles ahead during the run.

The Eagles scored the first seven points of the second half to take a 10-point lead, kept the Bobcats at least seven points away, and extended the lead down the stretch for the 20-point victory.

McRae was 6-11 from the floor, including 3-6 three point attempts, and also had seven rebounds. Senior Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va., James Madison) also reached double figures with 10 points on 4-8 shooting, with six rebounds and four assists. Senior guard Rachel Martin (Annandale, Va., Bishop Ireton) had nine points off the bench for the Eagles. Frostburg was led by Elena Hummel's 20 points.

Mary Washington will host Marymount University on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. in another CAC contest at the Anderson Center.
