Senior guards Jenna McRae (Springfield, Va., Annandale) and Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va., James Madison) and sophomore Aby Diop (Springfield, Va., Annandale) all scored 13 points to lead the ninth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 66-35 victory over Hood College to remain undefeated on the season on Wednesday night at the Anderson Center. UMW moves to 17-0 overall and 8-0 in CAC play.
The Eagles used their trademark defense to vault to a 34-13 halftime lead. The Blazers went just 5-20 from the floor in the first frame, while UMW made 13 baskets on 39 attempts. For the game, Hood shot 31.8% (14-44), while the Eagles shot 35.1% (26-74). Hood committed 21 turnovers thanks mainly to 14 Eagle steals.
Diop recorded a double-double with 13 points on 4-9 shooting from the floor and 5-7 from the line, and grabbed 11 rebounds. Wimmer went 4-10 from the floor and 5-7 from the stripe, and also added four rebounds, four assists, and four steals. McRae was 6-10 from the floor and also had three steals.
The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they visit Frostburg State University at 3:00 p.m. in another CAC contest.
