Senior guard Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va., James Madison) scored a team-high 18 points to lead four players in double figures as the 11th/13th ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team shot 52% from the floor en route to a 75-64 win over Ferrum College on Monday night in Ferrum, Va. The Eagles, one of six undefeated teams left in Division III women's basketball, improve to 16-0 on the year.

The Eagles jumped out to a 14-6 lead through the opening seven minutes, but a Ferrum three pointer with 4:32 to go cut UMW's lead to four, at 22-18. Seniors Rachel Martin (Annandale, Va., Bishop Ireton) and Jenna McRae (Springfield, Va., Annandale) each then hit three pointers in the next minute to push the lead to 10, and the Eagles held an eight point advantage at intermission, 32-24.

The second half saw Ferrum hit a quick three pointer to cut the deficit to five, but the Eagles answered with an 11-4 run to run the margin back to double digits. UMW kept the lead between 10-15 points down the stretch, holding on for an 11-point win.

The Eagles shot a blistering 52% as a team (29-56), with five three pointers and made 12-16 free throws. Ferrum was held to 34% (18-53) and made six three pointers, but stayed alive by making 22-26 free throws in the game. The Eagles used their trademark good ball movement as evidenced by 21 assists on their 29 field goals.

UMW was led by Wimmer's 18 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Martin went 4-4 from the floor including three three-pointers, and also went 2-2 from the free throw line for 13 points. Also in double figures for UMW were junior Carol Dye (Springfield, Va., Lake Braddock), who registered a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and senior guard Jenna McRae, who just missed a double-double with 10 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Kayla Goins had 13 to pace Ferrum.

Mary Washington will host Hood College on Wednesday night in Capital Athletic Conference action at 6:00 p.m.
