McRae Leads #15 UMW Women Past Lehman, 81-41


Senior guard Jenna McRae (Springfield, Va., Annandale) scored 23 points to lead the 15th ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to an 81-41 win over Lehman College on Monday afternoon at the William M. Anderson Center. The Eagles improve to 13-0 on the season.

The Eagles shot 42% from the floor for the game (31-74), with four three pointers, and connected on 15-18 free throws. Lehman shot 35.7%, but were plagued by 33 turnovers on the day. UMW led in rebounds, 45-30.

McRae went 9-16 from the floor, making all three of her three-point attempts, and added five rebounds, four assists, and three steals with no turnovers. Sophomore guard Sarah Jones (Leesburg, Va., Bishop O'Connell) scored 12 points off the bench in 17 minutes, and senior guard Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va., James Madison) added 11 points, six rebounds, six steals, and five assists. Junior center Carol Dye (Springfield, Va., Lake Braddock) added eight points and seven rebounds, and freshman Aubrey Howland (Richboro, Pa., Archbishop Wood) scored six points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Lehman was led by Paula Robinson's 16 points. Jaleesa Gordon had eight points and seven rebounds for the Lightning.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they visit St. Mary's College of Md. in a Capital Athletic Conference matinee at 1:00 p.m.
