Dye Leads #15/#18 UMW Women's Basketball Past Salisbury, 70-37


Junior center Carol Dye (Springfield, Va., Lake Braddock) scored a game-high 16 points and added nine rebounds to lead four players in double figures as the 15th/18th ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team defeated Salisbury University, 70-37, in Capital Athletic Conference action on Wednesday afternoon in Salisbury, Md. The Eagles improve to 11-0 overall and 4-0 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

Dye scored 16 points on 8-11 shooting in 29 minutes of action, grabbing nine rebounds. Others in double figures for UMW included senior guard Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va., James Madison) (11 points in 25 minutes), sophomore forward Aby Diop (Springfield, Va., Annandale) (11 points in 20 minutes), and senior guard Jenna McRae (Springfield, Va., Annandale) (10 points in 25 minutes). Freshman forward Aubrey Howland (Richboro, Pa., Archbishop Wood) added eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds for UMW.

The Eagles shot 43% from the floor for the game, making 26-60 shots, while holding the Sea Gulls to 25% (13-52). UMW held a 41-38 advantage in rebounds, and had 11 steals on 18 Salisbury turnovers while committing just 10 turnovers. Salisbury was led by Anna Hackett's 10 points.

Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday when they host York College in a battle of conference unbeatens, as both teams are 4-0 thus far in CAC play. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
