#7 UMW Women's Basketball Tops Stevenson, 64-30 to Move to 24-0

The seventh-ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team moved to within one win of a perfect regular season with a 64-30 win over Stevenson University on Wednesday night at the Anderson Center. Senior guard Jenna McRae led the way with 16 points for the Eagles, now 24-0 overall and 15-0 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

The Eagles took control from the opening tap, as the team's four seniors, playing in their final regular season home game, scored the first four baskets en route to a 9-2 early lead. UMW pushed the lead to as many as 15, which was the halftime margin at 32-17, thanks to a capping three pointer by senior Rachel Martin.

UMW's trademark defense showed itself in the second half, as the Mustangs didn't score for the first 9:59 of the half. With the lead up to 48-19, a 5-0 spurt put UMW up, 53-19, with 7:58 to play, leading to a 34-point margin of victory.

McRae led with 16 points as the only Eagle in double figures. Seniors Martin and Katie Wimmer each scored nine points, with Wimmer adding five steals. Junior Carol Dye also scored nine points to go with a team-high seven rebounds. Senior Claire Brooks added four points and six boards.

The Eagles shot 46.9% from the floor (23-49), including 7-15 three point attempts. Steven shot just 26% (12-46), and UMW won the rebounding battle, 43-21. Both teams committed 22 turnovers.

The Eagles will visit Wesley College on Saturday in the regular season finale at 2:00 p.m.
