McRae, Wimmer Lead UMW Women's Basketball Past St. Mary's, 69-47
Junior guard Jenna McRae (Springfield, Va., Annandale) scored 21 points and added 12 rebounds, while classmate Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va., James Madison) scored 16 and added eight boards in leading the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 69-47 win at St. Mary's College on Saturday in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles stretch their win streak to seven straight in improving to 13-5 overall and 9-1 in league play.

The Seahawks battled UMW through the early going, as the score stood tied with 6:50 left in the first half, 24-24. From there, UMW went on a 19-0 run, allowing the final basket of the half in leading, 43-26, at intermission. Seven different Eagles scored in the run.

The second half saw UMW up the lead to as many as 28 in the final minutes before claiming the 22-point victory. The Eagles also held a 48-26 advantage in rebounding. McRae shot 9-15 from the floor in leading all scorers, while Wimmer went 7-15. Junior Rachel Martin (Annandale, Va., Bishop Ireton) scored 11 points and added seven assists for UMW, who shot 46% from the floor, including five three pointers, while the Seahawks shot 36%.

Mary Washington will visit Marymount University on Monday at 6:00 p.m.
