UMW Outdoor Track & Field Opens Season by Hosting Eagle Opener

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's outdoor track and field teams opened the 2022 season on Saturday at the Battleground by hosting the UMW Opener.

Top performances for the women, who finished in third place, included Haileigh Byrd finishing second in the 100 meters at 13.21 and also taking second in the triple jump at 10.48 meters, and third in the long jump at 5.29 meters. Camy Delean was second in the 800 meters at 2:27.79, Grace Pippin was third in the 1500 meters at 5:06.06, and the 4x400 meter relay of Delean, Amanda Heckman, Amanda Morrissey, and Camila Perez Rondon finishing third at 4:24.72. Hannah Unger won the high jump at 1.50 meters for the Eagles' lone win.

On the men's side, the Eagles finished in third place. Ian Chapman was third in the 100 meter dash at 11.18 seconds, Patrick Brown was second in the 5000 meters at 15:50.32, and the 4x100 meter relay of Chapman, Reese Creadon, Wilson Jackson, and Darius Reed finished second at 43.54. Kevin Munson won the pole vault at 4.42 meters as well as the javelin throw at 40.87 meters, and Rajai Walton took second in the long jump at 6.93 meters and second in the triple jump at 13.43 meters. 

The Eagles will host the Battleground Relays on April 2.
