David Danek Named CAC Men's Indoor Track& Field Athlete of the Week

FREDERICKBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport senior Cullen Monahan and Mary Washington sophomore David Danek were selected as the CAC Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for Jan. 30, 2017.

Christopher Newport senior Cullen Monahan earned CAC Track Athlete of the Week honors after moving to ninth in the nation in the 800 meters after posting a time of 1:53.85 at the Liberty Kickoff on Saturday. That clocking matched the second-fastest time ever registered by a Captain and the best mark since 2011. It also stands just .69 seconds shy of the CAC record set by Thomas Burke in 2015. Additionally, that time was the fastest registered by a non-Division I athlete at the meet, falling just over a second shy of the top overall mark.

Mary Washington sophomore David Danek was tabbed as the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after claiming first place in the high jump at the George Mason Patriot Games on Saturday with a leap of 1.99 meters. Danek's mark ranks second in the CAC this winter and 26th nationally.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

At the 20th Annual Bison Open, Frostburg State sophomore John Kerns finished second, but was the top Division III finisher, besting several NCAA Division II throwers in the weight throw with an ECAC-qualifying distance of 16.49 meters (54ft. 1.25in.). Junior Robert Romano took home fifth place in the mile run in an ECAC time of 4:25.73 ... Mary Washington jumpers finished 1-2-3 in the high jump at the George Mason Patrio Games, as freshmen Rajai Walton and Ben Onguene joined Field Athlete of the Week David Danek in the top three ... Salisbury senior Alex Hardman earned three top-four finishes at the 2018 Patriot Games hosted by George Mason. Hardman earned a second-place finish in the 400 at 51.28 seconds, fourth in the 200 at 23.09 seconds, and helped the 4x400-meter relay team to victory in 3:29.46. Senior Matthew Adedeji garnered two top-four finishes, taking fourth in the high jump 5'-10.5" and third in the triple jump at 43'-7" ... Southern Virginia junior Derek Blasko won the Finn Pincus Invite at Roanoke with a shot put of 14.35m, a career best. The SVU men's distance medley relay team comprised of Michael Myers, Daniel de la Cruz, Nelson Rader, and Colter May finished in third place with a time of 10:56.13. Their performance currently stands in first among all other teams in the CAC ... York junior Ethan Budsock had a record-breaking performance at the 20th Annual Bison Open hosted by Bucknell on Saturday. Budsock broke a Spartan school record as he notched a time of 1:08.96 in the 500 meters.
