UMW Softball Drops Saturday Doubleheader to #1 Christopher Newport

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against #1 ranked Christopher Newport University on Saturday at the Battleground, falling 6-0 in the first game and 4-0 in the second. UMW slips to 18-21 on the season.

In the first game, the score stayed scoreless until the third inning, when CNU scored a pair of runs. They added three runs in the fourth and another in the fifth. Nya Lloyd and Hannah Steele eac recorded hits for the Eagles.

Caitlyn Burch took the loss for the Eagles, allowing four earned runs in six innings on six hits, with five walks and three strikeouts.

In the second game, freshman Taylor Hudson pitched admirably, as the game remained scoreless until the fifth, when the Captains scored an unearned run. They would add one in the sixth and two in the seventh, both unearned. She allowed one earned run on five hits in seven innings, with three walks and four strikeouts.

The Eagles will return to action next Thursday in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, held at CNU.
