UMW Softball Drops Wednesday Pair at #9 Va. Wesleyan

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a pair of games at ninth-ranked Virginia Wesleyan University on Wednesday afternoon in Virginia Beach, 8-0 and 2-1. The Eagles slip to 16-13 on the season.

In the first game, the Marlins jumped ahead with four runs in the first and three in the second, before adding one in the fourth in a five inning win. Emma Dickson, Maggiw Mrowka, and Kayla Mann all had singles for the Eagles.

Caitlyn Burch took the loss, allowing five earned runs on six hits, walking four and striking out three.

In game two, the Marlins went ahead with one run in the third, before UMW tied the score in the fourth. Mrowka singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, and to third on a flyout, before scoring on a Bridget Laychak single. Va. Wesleyan found the eventual game winning run in the sixth on a sarifice fly.

Laychak had two hits and an RBI for UMW, while Dickson and Mrowka each singled. Stephanie Folkner took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits in five innings, with three walks.

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday when they visit Shenandoah University at 3:00 p.m.
