The University of Mary Washington softball team saw its nine-game win streak come to an end with a pair of losses at Eastern Mennonite University on Sunday in Harrisonburg, Va. The Eagles slip to 15-7 on the year, after dropping the opener, 11-3, and the second, game, 8-3.

In game one, the Eagles jumped out in front with a pair of runs in the first. Hannah Bruns singled and advanced to second on a Caroline Callahan walk. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice, and Malia Rogers followed with an RBI single. Callahan came home to score on a sacrifice fly from Emma Rakowski.

The Royals responded with four runs in the bottom of the first to grab the lead, and added three more in the second inning. UMW got one back in the third, as Hannah Hautz hit a solo home run, but EMU scored once in the third, twice in the fourth, and again in the sixth to end the game on the eight run rule.

Hautz, Rogers, and Bruns provided the three Eagle hits. Erin Stinson took the loss for UMW, allowing four runs on two hits in two innings, with two walks and a strikeout.

In the second game, EMU outlasted the Eagles, 8-3, as the Royals improved to 12-0 on the year. Eastern Mennonite scored twice in the third to take the lead, but saw the Eagles respond with three in the fourth.

Callahan and Hautz singled to open the inning, and Rakowski plated both runners with a triple. Caitlin Shea scored Rakowski with an RBI single. The Royals scored six runs in the fourth to take the lead for good.

Hautz had a single and double to lead UMW in game two. Kara Deppe took the loss for the Eagles, allowing five earned runs in six innings, on 10 hits and four walks. She did strike out 10 Royal hitters.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they visit sixth ranked Virginia Wesleyan College for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
