Ryan Smith joins the UMW men's tennis program this year as a graduate assistant coach for Coach Helbling. Smith, a 2007 graduate of Bridgewater College, where he competed in collegiate tennis for four years, is pursuing a degree at the graduate campus.

Smith served as an assistant teacher at Stone Spring Elementary School since 2010, first with preschool and then with special education. He has gained experience as a coach as a high school coach for two years, and taught as an after school teacher and as a substitute teacher as well.

Smith's brother, Conor, was one of the greatest players in UMW program history, gaining election into the UMW Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.
