UMW Men's Tennis Tops Salisbury, 5-3, in C2C Semis on Friday

The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated Salisbury University, 5-3, on Friday afternoon at the Edwad Hegmann Tennis Complex. The Eagles improve to 10-2 on the season, and advance to Saturday's finals.

The Eagles fell behind after doubles action, as the Gulls took points at one doubles, 8-4, and two doubles, 8-7. UMW's Artis Hart and Priyan Desilva gained a big point at three doubles to get the Eagles on the board, albeit trailing, 2-1, after doubles.

In singles action, UMW knotted the score at 2-2, as Peter Leese won at four singles over Ryan Santmyer, 7-5, 6-0, and took the lead at 3-2 as Rishi Charan Shankar won at two, 7-5, 6-2. Salisbury picked up a win at five singles to knot the score at 3-3, but the Eagles gained wins from Moses Hutchison at one, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, and senior Cole Tecce gained a 6-7, 6-0, 6-4 win at three for the clinching point.

The Eagles will face the winner of Friday's semifinal match between Christopher Newport and Southern Virginia for the league crown on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
