UMW Men's Tennis Blanks Washington and Lee, 9-0, on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated Washington and Lee University, 9-0, on Saturday at the Edward Hegmann Tennic Complex at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 7-2 on the season.

The Eagles gained doubles wins at two and three by identical 8-4 margins, as Peter Leese and Rishi Charan Shankar were victorious at two over Alex Fedor and Noah Tapp, and Nick Spera and Cole Tecce won at three over Jonathan Molner and T.J. Rudden. UMW gained a big momentum boost as the one doubles team of Moses Hutchison and Andrew Watson came from behind to win in a tiebreak, 8-7 (7).

In singles, Hutchison defeated Connor Coleman, 6-2, 6-2, and Watson downed Fedor at two, 5-2, retired. Charan Shankar won at three, 7-5, 6-3, and Tecce defeated Harry Kitteredge, 4-0, retired. Spera downed Rudden, 6-1, 6-3, and Leese beat Molner, 6-1, 6-1.

The Eagles will be back in action on Monday when they host Virginia Wesleyan University at 4:00 p.m.
