UMW Men's Tennis Tops Christopher Newport, 7-2, on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated Coast 2 Coast Athletic Conference rival Christopher Newport University, 7-2, on Saturday afternoon in Newport News, Va. The Eagles improve to 6-2 overall, and 3-0 in C2C action.

In doubles, the top two teams fought off numerous match points to gain victories. Moses Hutchison and Andrew Watson gained a hard-fought 8-7 (1) win at one, and Peter Leese and Rishi Charan Shankar followed suit at two, 8-7 (6). Nick Spera and Cole Tecce won at three doubles, 8-5.

In singles, UMW gained wins from Hutchison at one, 7-6, 1-6, 6-3, Charan Shankar at three, 6-2, 6-4, Tecce at four, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3, and Leese at six, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.

The Eagles will be back in action next Saturday when they host Washington & Lee University at 1:00 p.m.
