UMW Men's Tennis Opens '21 Slate with 9-0 Win over Washington College

The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team opened its 2021 season with a 9-0 victory over Washington College on Friday evening at the Ed Hegmann Tennis Facility. 

UMW started strong in doubles play, as Moses Hutchison and Rishi Charan Shankar defeated Ian Hewes and Landon Strober at one, 6-2, and Nick Spera and Andrew Cooper downed Andrew Province and Christian Gruyon, 6-3. Three doubles won by default.

In singles play, Hutchison down Strober, 6-1, at one, and Charan Shankar topped Hewes at two, 7-5. Artis Hart defeated Province at three, 6-0, and Peter Leese won at four, 6-3. Five and six were defaults.

The Eagles will return to action on Sunday, when they visit James Madison University at 1:00 p.m.
