#16 UMW Men’s Tennis Downs CNU, 8-1, in CAC Action

The sixteenth ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team topped Christopher Newport University, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon in Newports News, Va. The Eagles improve to 13-3 overall, and 3-0 in the CAC.

UMW swept the doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead. Matt Miles and Moses Hutchison won at one doubles 8-3, Derek Hagino and Ryland Byrd won at two doubles 8-4, while Michael Fleming and Patrick Hughes won at three doubles 8-7.

The Eagles kept it going in singles as they won five out of the six matches. Hughes won at two singles, 6-3, 6-4 and Hutchison won 6-2, 6-1 at three singles. Byrd played four singles and won 6-4, 6-4. Hagino won 6-0, 6-3 at five singles and Cole Tecce won 6-2, 6-3 at six singles. CNU won their lone match at one singles winning 5-7, 6-0, 10-7.

The Eagles will be back in action as they will travel to York and Penn St.-Harrisburg on Friday afternoon.
