#12 UMW Men’s Tennis Shuts Out Franklin and Marshall, St. Mary’s (Md.) on Saturday

The twelth-ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team shut out Franklin and Marshall College and St. Mary's College on Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va. The Eagles improve to 17-3 overall, and 7-0 in the CAC. 

Against Franklin and Marshall, UMW took a 3-0 lead after doubles action. Ryland Byrd and Michael Fleming won at one doubles 8-4; Moses Hutchison and Matt Miles won at two doubles 8-4; Ryan Berry and Cole Tecce won at three doubles 8-5.

In singles action, the Eagles won all six matches with only one going to three sets. Patrick Hughes won at one singles 6-2, 7-5; Joseph Brown won at two singles 6-3, 6-4; Hutchison won at three singles 6-2, 5-7, 10-8. Fleming won at four singles 6-3, 6-3; Byrd won at five singles 6-3, 6-4; and Derek Hagino won at six singles 6-4, 6-3.

Against St. Mary's, the Eagles only dropped three games in the three matches. Byrd and Fleming won at one doubles 8-3; Hagino and Hughes won at two doubles 8-0; Brown and Berry won at three doubles 8-0.

UMW dominated in singles play against St. Mary's as they won all the matches in two sets. Miles won at one singles 6-1, 6-4; Hughes won at two singles 6-1, 6-2; Brown won at three singles 6-1, 6-1; Tecce won at four singles 6-0, 6-0; Hagino won at five singles 6-0, 6-1; and Berry won at six singles 6-0, 6-0.

UMW will be back in action on Saturday as they will travel to The College of New Jersey for a match at 1 p.m.
