The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team opened play at the ITA Regional Championship on Saturday at the Battleground, with several top results.

In doubles action, Derek Hagino and Patrick Hughes defeated second seeded Cartledge and Kang in the round of 32, 8-5, after topping Dillenbeck and Rodgers, 8-6, in the round of 64. Third seeded Michael Fleming and Matt Miles defeated Gu and Joshi, 8-2, in the round of 32, and both duos will be alive in the round of 16 on Sunday.

In other doubles action, Joseph Brown and Cole Tecce defeated Lacombe and Trang, 8-6, before falling to fourth seeded Downing and Levine, 8-2. Ninth seed Ryland Byrd and Moses Hutchison fell to Harmon and Zheng, 8-5, in the round of 32.

In singles play, ninth seed Hughes topped Christopher Salisbury, 6-2, 6-0, in the round of 32 after downing Mitchell Thomas, 6-3, 6-1, in the first round. Fourth seeded Miles defeated Charlie Kitteridge, 6-7, 6-1, 6-1, in the round of 32, after topping Michael Moody, 6-2, 6-1. Fleming stooped Nicholas Ruzicka, 7-6, 6-2, in the second round after beating Brad Strober, 6-4, 6-0. Hagino topped Joe Dillenbeck, 6-2, 6-2, before falling to top seed Daniel Levine, 6-1, 6-0. Joseph Brown beat Dominic Lacombe, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3, before falling to ninth seed Eric Yoo, 6-2, 6-3. Ryland Byrd defeated Paul Gladstone, 6-3, 6-3, in the first round, and then fell to fifth seed David Perez, 7-5, 3-6, 6-1, in the second.

In the blue singles flight, Cole Tecce defeated Rajadurai Arul, 6-2, 7-5, and Alex Matisse, 7-5, 6-3. Moses Hutchison defeated Michael Song, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6, and Daisuke Nakayama, 6-0, 6-3. Ryan Berry topped Nathaniel Horner, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
