UMW Men's Tennis Competes at Navy Invitational

The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team is competing at the Navy Invitational this weekend. Through two days of results, UMW has gained several top results.

In the Blue singles flight, Matt Miles defeated Eric Yoo of Johns Hopkins, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, before falling in the consolation semifinal. In the red singles flight, Patrick Hughes won his first round match over Max Benjamin, 7-6, 5-7, 7-5. In the orange flight, Derek Hagino defeated Justice Jones of Delaware before falling in the consol semis. Michael Fleming won his first round match over Jakob Behun of George Washington, 7-6, 6-0.

In the purple singles flight, Moses Hutchison won his first round match against John Rutkowski, 6-2, 6-4. In the yellow bracket, Ryland Byrd won his first round match against Andrey Majik of Navy, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, and over Aaron Carey of Johns Hopkins, 6-4, 6-1, to advance to the fifth place match on Sunday. Freshman Cole Tecce downed Walker Sims of Navy, 6-0, 6-0, and Joseph Cartledge of Johns Hopkins, 6-1, 6-3, before falling in three sets in the semis.

In doubles, the weekend has been highlighted by Byrd and Hutchison, who have advanced to the B flight finals, after defeating Araoz and Biscouvenau of Temple, 6-3, and Sharton and Witmer of Georgetown, 7-5,  before topping Gu and Kim of JHU in the semis.

The tournaments will conclude on Sunday.
