UMW Men's Swimming Finishes Fourth Overall to Complete the F & M Invitational

The University of Mary Washington men's swimming team finished in fourth place overall at the conclusion of the Franklin & Marshall College Invitational.

The Eagles showed out in the first event of the last session of the invitational, as Kai Green, Paul Datovech, and Jack Dragone finished in first, third, and fifth place respectively in the 100 IM, with times of 53.51, 55.77, and 58.78. The 1650 freestyle saw Kyle Johnson, Jack Schreiber, Luke Strickler, and Eric Hupp placing relatively close with times of 17:10.63, 17:42.60, 17:53.73, and 18:14.67. The 200 yard backstroke consisted of Alex Aung, Boone Fleenor, Paul Datovech, and Kyle Johnson, who hit the wall with respective times of 2:00.32, 157:94, 2:03.01, and 2:05.88. Freshman Will Burkey and senior Ellis Winfree were the two Eagles to place in the 100 freestyle, with final times of 47.77 and 48.33. Senior Stephen Wallach placed fifth in the 200 breaststroke at 2:07.36, with four of his fellow Eagles timing out at 2:10.29, 2:12.58, 2:12.73, and 2:18.79. Johnathan Zimmer coasted into first in the 200 butterfly at 1:51.72, finishing four whole seconds faster than any other participant. His fellow freshman classmate, Larry Almariento, came next to rep the Eagles at 1:56.96, followed closely by Sean Gitchell and Kyle Diederich, who touched at 1:59.30 and 2:05.83. The 400 freestyle relay closed out the meet, with Green, Burkey, Darl Everett, and Winfree taking seventh and Tan, Logan Dewalt, Trevey, and Zimmer taking eighth, at 3:10.23 and 3:10.76.  

 

The Eagles will have a long break and resume swimming on January 14 at Catholic University to face the Cardinals at 1 pm.
