UMW Dominates as 2018 All-CAC Men's Swimming Team Announced

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Frostburg State senior Christian March, York freshman Keven Stahl, and Mary Washington head coach Abby Brethauer collected major awards to headline the 2018 All-CAC Men's Swimming team. 

Frostburg State's March notched one gold and two silvers throughout the championship meet to repeat as Athlete of the Year. March helped the Bobcats to a fifth-place team finish and a team total of 331 points - both program highs at the championships. He won the 100 breaststroke for the second-straight year and finished runner-up in the 50 freestyle and 200 breaststroke. March is seventh male swimmer in conference history to claim multiple Athlete of the Year awards. 

York's Stahl registered a trio of individual wins and was a part of two relay victories en route to Rookie of the Year accolades. Stahl won the 1,650 freestyle in a CAC and championship-meet record time, and also notched individual victories in the 500 freestyle and 400 IM. He also teamed with Morgan SchreiberDrew Newman, and Jesse Tate for victory in the 800 freestyle relay and Schreiber, Tate, and Tyler Maggio for a win in the 400 medley relay. 

Mary Washington's Brethauer was selected by her peers as CAC Coach of the Year for the fourth time after leading the UMW men to their 18th-straight CAC crown. She is just the third coach in conference history to win the award four or more times, joining UMW's Matt Kinney and Catholic's Tom Calomeris in that elite grouping.  

UMW's Jeff Leckrone led the Eagles with a total of seven top-two placings throughout the event. Individually, Leckrone won the 200 breaststroke and finished second in both the 100 breaststroke and 100 IM. Leckrone also collected four relay medals, winning the 200 freestyle relay with Gareth ManciniJeremy Robertson, and Garett Ross, and the 400 freestyle relay along with Kenyon Huber-Wilker, Mancini, and Robertson. 

Carsen Mumford placed second in both the 100 and 200 backstrokes for the Eagles, Bradley Torrington earned silver in the 200 butterfly, Austin Farrar placed second in the 400 IM, and Huber-Wilker placed runner-up in the 200 IM. 

UMW also took second place in a trio of relays, with Leckrone, Mancini, Huber-Wilker, and Ross taking silver in the 200 medley, Carsen MumfordMark Dye, Leckrone and Huber-Wilker in the 400 medley, and Farrar, Kolin HoffmanChris Cassingham, and Huber-Wilker finishing runner-up in the 800 freestyle. 

In addition to a trio of relay wins and a second-place relay finish, York's Morgan Schreiber completed a four-year sweep of gold in the 100 backstroke and three-peated in the 200 backstroke to post yet another stellar meet for the Spartans. On top of the 800 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay wins, Schreiber also contributed to the winning 200 medley relay along with Tyler MaggioJesse Tate, and Trevor Brinton, and placed second in the 200 freestyle with BrintonNick Foltz, and A.J. Loehr. 

Tate also put together an impressive weekend for the Spartans, winning the 200 butterfly and 200 IM, and taking second in the 100 butterfly. 

Salisbury's Josh Brown won three events to lead the Sea Gulls, including a CAC and championship-meet record time in the 100 IM. Brown also secured gold in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Other All-CAC performers for the Sea Gulls included Richard Baker in the 100 freestyle and the Brown, Baker, Pete Moyer and Jake Ryan in the 400 freestyle relay. 

Joining March on the All-CAC team for Frostburg State was Luke Holloway, who won the 100 freestyle and placed second in the 200 freestyle. 

St. Mary's was represented on the all-star squad by Andrew Scott, who earned All-CAC second team honors in the 1,650 freestyle.
