UMW Men's Soccer, #25 Lynchburg Battle to 2-2 Tie

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 tie at the 25th ranked University of Lynchburg on Wednesday night in Lynchburg. The Eagles move to 4-2-1 on the season.

The host Hornets scored the lone goal of the first half, in the 34th minute. The Eagles knotted the score nine minutes into the second half, as junior Juan Vargas scored on an Evan Fidler assist at 54:09. UMW took the lead at 68:35 on a penalty kick score from Diego Guzman, but Lynchburg equalled the score with a penalty kick of their own in the 80th minute.

The Eagles held a 14-13 edge in shots, while carrying a 7-2 lead in corner kicks. Eagle goalkeeper Griffin Hemmendinger made four saves on the night.

UMW will return to action on Saturday when they visit Christopher Newport University at 6:00 p.m.
