Matt Spencer Named CAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- St. Mary's freshman Isaac Ekobo and Mary Washington senior Matt Spencer were tabbed as the CAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week for Sept. 11, 2017.

St. Mary's freshman Isaac Ekobo was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after having a hand in two of the Seahawks' three goals in a 2-1 week. Ekobo netted the game-winning goal against Washington College for his first career goal and assisted on the insurance tally against Bridgewater (Va.) as the Seahawks finished second at their own Seahawk Classic.

Mary Washington senior Matt Spencer was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after allowing just one goal in 200:00 minutes of action in a 1-0-1 week for the Eagles. In a scoreless tie at Catholic, Spencer had seven saves in gaining the 110-minute shutout without allowing a score. At North Carolina Wesleyan, he made four stops and allowed one tally in 90 minutes en route to the win. For the week, he had a 0.45 GAA with 11 saves for a .917 save percentage.

Christopher Newport is ranked No. 21 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason National Rankings ... CNU head coach Steve Shaw collected his 300th career win with the win over Rutgers-Camden. Senior James Lee scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in the 4-0 win over the Scarlet Raptors ... Frostburg State freshman Logan Imbraguglio scored two goals last week against Rutgers-Camden as Frostburg finished 0-2-1 ... Penn State Harrisburg defeated Neumann 2-1 in its lone contest of the week ... St. Mary's goalkeeper Zack Haussler posted a 2-0-0 record with a 0.50 goals against average and one shutout. Haussler started the week with three saves in recording his 14th career solo shutout against Washington College. He currently ranks third all-time at St. Mary's with 14.5 shutouts. Haussler closed out the week with four saves, including denying a penalty kick, in the victory over Bridgewater (Va.) to help St. Mary's finish second at its own Seahawk Classic ... Southern Virginia senior Marrott Weekes scored one goal and dished out an assist in the Knights' win at Christendom on Saturday ... In his first collegiate game, Wesley freshman goalkeeper Jake Price shutout Valley Forge and made two saves in his first win. Danny Garza recorded a goal and two assists on the week for Wesley. Garza scored on a penalty kick against Shenandoah and assisted on two goals against Valley Forge.
