UMW Men's Rugby Tops Salisbury, 51-5

Mary Washington stayed on top of the Chesapeake Conference over the weekend, but perhaps the biggest story was that Towson upset Mount St. Mary's and finally turned a close loss into a victory.

UMW simply rolled along, winning at Salisbury 51-5 on Saturday.

"All of our coaches are so proud of the way these guys stuck it out," UMW director of rugby Tim Brown said.

Mothers coach Min Sae Chae had to scrub No. 8 Matthew Gordon (six tries in the last two games) right before kickoff due to a bruise, and both Mary Washington props went out due to injury.

"But we adjusted," Brown said.

Senior Terence McPhillips IV played his first full game back and showed why he was All-Conference last year, scoring three tries. Bradlee Nicholls scored three times and Justin Ford kicked effectively. Harry Masters was a physical presence all day long, and Jack Levine was very active at flanker.

Man of the match was field captain Lewis Grant, who made countless tackles and rucked out clean balls all day.
