UMW Men's Rugby Tops UNC Wilmington, 48-24

UMW Rugby continued their challenging spring season with a 48-24 road win over UNC Wilmington in Wilmington NC.  UMW made the six hour trip down to the beach in anticipation of a physical match and UNCW did not disappoint.

UMW jumped out to a quick 19-0 lead with try's by junior Terence McPhillips IV , freshman Adam Thomson and freshman Logan Ray, with 2/3 try's converted.  UNCW battered their way to 2 tries, one of them converted, bringing the score to 19-12 UMW. UMW's hooker Fernando Meersohn scored a converted try at the 33rd minute and UMW ended the half up 26-12.

The highlight of the 2nd half was the play of freshman Ewan Corley who scored 3 times, touching down at the 65th, 70th and 78th minute. UNCW played well throughout but UMW's defense tightened and made the scores hard-earned. UNCW scored 2 second half tries, one of them converted. Senior Stuart Penninger scored at the 76th minute as well which effectively put the match out of reach at that point.

The final was UMW 48, UNCW 24.
