UMW Men's Lacrosse Falls at Hampden-Sydney, 14-8, on Tuesday Night

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-8 decision at Hampden-Sydney College on Tuesday evening. The Eagles slip to 1-3 on the season.

The Tigers started with a bang, outscoring the Eagles, 7-3, in the first. After the Tigers scored the first goal, UMW answered to tie the score on a goal from Kevin Cruz on a Sam Allen assist with 13:20 remaining. The Tigers answered with three straight goals before Logan Green scored with 8:29 left. The Tigers scored a pair to up the lead to 6-2, before Kristophe Newman scored with 2:27 left. HSC scored the final goal of the period to take a 7-3 lead to the second period.

In the second, the Tigers scored a pair to lead, 9-3, before the Eagles answered with two goals to cut the margin to 9-5. Cameron Walker scored with 5:09 left in a man-up situation on a Cruz assist, and J.D. Nozemack added another two minutes lateron a Jack-Henry Smith assist.

The Tigers outscored the Eagles, 3-1, in the third, with Newman picking up the Eagles goal. In the fourth, a pair of HSC goals preceded UMW goals from Cruz on a Cameron Walker assist and a Grant Cragg goal in the final second on a Nozemack pass.

The Tigers led in shots, 47-32, and outdistanced the Eagles, 39-30, in ground balls. UMW goalkeeper Riley Green made five saves for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will be back in action next Wednesday when they visit Roanoke College at 4:00 p.m.
