UMW Men’s Lacrosse Falls at #12 Ursinus, 15-10, on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse falls at twelfth-ranked Ursinus College, 15-10, on Saturday afternoon in Collegeville, PA. The Eagles slip to 2-2 overall on the season. 

Nick Clingan got the game started as he scored just nine seconds into the game on an assist from J.D. Nozemack. Ursinus answered with three straight goals over the next six minutes to go up 3-1. Clingan added his second of the day with 7:30 left to play in the first quarter. The Eagles then went scoreless over the next seven minutes and the Bears took advantage as they added two to go up 5-2.

Ursinus scored the first three goals of the second quarter to take a six goal lead. The Eagles fought back from there as they answered with three straight to close the half. Kevin Cruz scored on an assist from Nozemack in a man-up opportunity, then Quintin Ricci scored seven seconds later, and Chase Kapuscienski scored with just 27 seconds left on an assist from Logan Green to put the score at 8-5 at the half.

Out of the break, Kristophe Newman scored off an assist from Kapuscienski just 1:32 into the third to put UMW down two. The Bears reeled off three straight goals to extend their lead to 11-6. Hunter Tipton added a goal with 1:21 left, and then a goal from Shane Sutton with just six seconds left in the quarter put UMW down just three, 11-8.

In the fourth, the Bears scored the first goal in a man-up opportunity with 11:56 to play. Ricci won the ensuing face-off and scored for the Eagles just nine-seconds later. The Bears added another goal, but UMW answered right back as Cruz added another goal in a man-up situation to put the score at 13-10 with just under nine minutes to play. The Bears added two more goals and closed the door for UMW.

Senior Nathaniel Holic had 11 saves on the day for the Eagles. Ricci won 19-29 faceoffs, and picked up 16 ground balls. Jamin Lane caused two turnovers and added three ground balls. Jack-Henry Smith picked up three ground balls and dished out an assist. 

UMW won the ground ball battle, 48-29. Ursinus totaled 40 shots and UMW had 36 shots. 

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday as they will travel to Bridgewater for a game at 4 p.m.
